Discovering our Ear and Sound Around us

The teacher would do a simple presentation of the ear. For example:

The ear is the part of the body that lets people hear. Some animals, like people and most vertebrates, have two ears, but some animals do not hear through ears. Spiders have small hairs on their legs that they can hear with.

The ear works by directing sound to the inner ear. These vibrations are sent to the brain by a network of nerves.

The part of the ear that sticks out and can be seen is called the pinna.

Ears also are used for other purposes. Elephants use their large ears to cool themselves when it is very hot.

Then the class would listen to sounds, so the children learn to distinguish common sounds. Examples:

Students can now listen and try to understand sounds of their everyday life. Such as a School Bell, a school classroom or a school’s hallway, a bus or a train or even of a noisy street that contains all. Also can listen to musical instruments, clocks etc. Here are some examples:

everyday sounds - School Bell Ringing.mp3

everyday sounds - School's Hallway Noises.mp3

everyday sounds - clock ticking.mp3

Musical Instruments

Human sounds can also be used for demonstration to kids. Here are some examples:

human sounds - Heartbeat.mp3

The value of sound becomes bigger on some animals that use their voice in collaboration with their hearing to orientate on their environment. Such animals are like dolphins, bats etc. Teachers can also use other examples to canalize students towards knowledge. In addition, such animals emit sounds and they are waiting sounds to come back, so they can understand how far are the obstacles, around them.

Sound becomes also important to us, if we compare with people who can not hear. Kids can understand that if they couldn't listen we all should talking with nods. Like on news for deaf people.
